I am a daycare teacher and one of the parents at the center told me they had a great fish for my new 29 gallon aquarium and were willing to give it to me for free (they said it was about 5 inches long). WELL, it is twelve inches long and about 5 inches TALL (and growing). The poor thing has no room to move and is miserable around 20 five year old children. He has only been in the tank for four days (Friday-Monday) but he needs to go. It is inhumane to keep him where he is and the parent who supplied him does not want him back. He is a beautiful pacu but he did sustain a scrape on one side in transporting. He is located in Northern Illinois and I am willing to give hime away for free provided you have at the MINIMUM a 55 gallon tank and are willing to upgrade soon. Post or Email ktbird80@yahoo.com with questions or if you want him (first come first serve) Thanks Katie IP: Logged |

i would recommed you bring that pacu to a large public aquarium as they are not recommed for small aquariums as they grow very bigg http://www.aquariumfish.net/catalog_pages/wild/pacu.htm ------------------ IP: Logged |

That reminds me of the time I set up a 29 gallon tank at work. While the tank was fishless cycling, someone bought me a 12 inch long oscar that had outgrown its home. (probably a 10 gallon!) Needless to say, go out and buy a big net, and an ice chest and use as much of the aquarium water that you can. My LFS wound up taking the oscar and later sold him for 30 dollars to a guy with a big tank. Good luck. IP: Logged |

needs help, If you do not find someone that has a 55g tank or larger I would suggest you take the pacu to a local aquarium and talk to them and see if they are willing to take him. I had 2 beautiful red belly pacu in my 55g tank and they grew over 12inches in a yr. I gave them to my local pet store and they traded me for some small fishes. Some places will do a trade and some places don't. I just wanted a home for the pacus regardless but I got lucky with a trade. The way to transport them is get a big net and being gently on them cuz they are known as tank busters. once they get in the net head first try to trap them without the pacu moving so much and stick your other hand in the tank and grab the pacu gently from the top of the body. I put the pacu's in a 5 gal. bucket along with water from the tank. The bucket is going to feel heavy so you might need some help. I would also suggest you putting a small bag on top of the bucket, like a dominick's bag this way it will keep them from being in shock and moving alot. ------------------ IP: Logged |
