I saw an adorable 1.6 gallon tank at Wal-mart today. I have just the spot for it too but I was wondering would it be possible to keep a betta and an otocinclus in there or would that be too much? Or, could I possible turn it brackish to keep one or two bumblebee gobies in? I've never had a really small tank before so any advice is appreciated. Thank you. IP: Logged |

Personally, I wouldn't bother with a tank that small because there's really nothing that can live happily in it. You could put a betta in there, but it would be happier in a 2 - 3 gallon tank. -Chelle IP: Logged |

Good point. I might just get it to put some live plants in it and I can use it to transfer my pregnant guppy into when she gets close to giving birth. With 1.6 gallons and 10 watts of light I should at least be able to get some plants to grow! IP: Logged |

I decided on a 5G. It was only ten dollars more and you get 4 more gallons of water, and a filter that is all inside the hood with a bio-wheel instead of a UGF filter (which I never liked). Now, onto the search for inhabitants! What do you guys think of: 2 otocinclus Also, the room it is in stays very warm, especially in the summer (usually between 73-88) is a heater really necessary with this amount of warmth in the room? Thank you. IP: Logged |

I think, in a tank like this, u cud house about 22cm of fish (using the Practical Fishkeeping Magazine stocking density calculator) so u shud b ok with the fish u want especially if u hav a gud mature filter and an xcelent maintainence regime. As 4 heating, i hav a room with the same temparature range as yours and in it is a guppy breedin tank. The temparature is fine but u have to be careful about severe fluctuations in a small tank. Thank you for the reply. I'm thinking I'll get a heater in the winter but right now that tank is actually warmer than my big tank with a heater. I am very good with tank maintenance (sometimes I even enjoy it- I know that's weird!), so now I'll just have to figure out how much 22cm is-digs out the high school math book- Thanks again! That would be pushig it a little, but if you keep a close eye on your water parameters and don't slack off on water changes, you should be able to get away with it. -Chelle IP: Logged |

i agree with chelle, you can really get away with alot if you do your water changes. i have one tank that is small and never been cleaned and NOTHING has ever died due to my freqent water changes...especailly with a smaller tank. IP: Logged |
