First of all, what should an oscar be fed? I have been feeding him pelets, but I dont know if that will fill him up. Second, he isnt very "excited" about eating. My friend has 2 oscars that when he feeds them feeder fish, they go crazy over them. (where mine seems kinda depressed or something) What should I do, and what all will they eat? Thanks.

dont feed feaders unless you rase them your self!! also feeders dont give anought nutrition for the O's and also may cuse them to be constepaded.. you could very thier diet maybe give them some crikets or some LEAN beef hart or some blood worms. hikari cichlid pelets are very good for them. if your oscar isnt exited over food maybe hes sick... what are your water peramitors? how many times do you do tank matanence what size tank and are their any other fish with the O.. and what filtration?
to answer your question fully we have to know all the above info. also what size is your oscar?

I know what you mean. I started my oscar out on the expensive frozen stuff. Then I switched to Hikari Gold pellets to save money. He almost looks insulted when I feed him pellets now. He gets all excited when I approach the tank and comes to the surface when I open the lid, and when the pellets hit the water (they float) he just sorta drifts back down and (I swear) looks at me like I shot his dog. However, he does come around and eats because an hour or two later, all the pellets are gone and he continues to grow. No healthy living creature will allow itself to starve if food is available. The pellets should be his staple diet. Treats can include worms or crickets. Stay away from store bought feeders. I also give mine moths and spiders I catch around the house. He loves those.

Be careful giving them bugs that you caught because they could have pestacides on them.

As for not liking pellets, my oscars go through phases. Sometimes they will barely touch their pellets and only want things like worms & shrimp and other times (like right now) they get so excited about pellets they keep trying to jump out of the tank at feeding time and won't even touch a worm.

I feed my oscars hikari cichlid gold and they go crazy for it.They have been on that since they were babies, now they are 9" and 7" . I tried giving them some grubs once, but they only let them float around.

Try not feeding your oscar for a day or two.
Maybe this will bring its appetite back and the pellets may seem more appealing!
