I have a new 20 gal tank with 4 african cichlids. I am wondering if anyone can tell me what kind with just a decription. #1 a blue and black tiger striped # 2 a light orange-yellow #3 a white one who looks pinkish the pet store had a sticker on the tank that said snow white # 4 a bright orange. almost looks like a goldfish any additional info will help too. I have a few live plants that are doing well. the fish don't bother them at all. IP: Logged |

I used to have a blue and black striped that was called and Electric Blue Johanni. I believe it was a Mbuna. Don't know about the others though. IP: Logged |

Could you post pictures? Does #1 look like this? Does #2 look like this? Does #4 look like this? Those are some of the more common ones that sort of fit your descriptions. As for the white one, several species have white morphs so w/o seeing a picture it's going to be really difficult to tell. -Chelle IP: Logged |

That's a female Pseudotropheus lombardoi (aka kennyi mbuna). The get to be about 4" and are fairly aggressive. The're also pretty common; I see them in most "mixed african" tanks the the LFS's around here. This is a male: -Chelle [This message has been edited by t_chelle16 (edited 03-10-2004).] IP: Logged |

Thanks T-Chelle16, I guess I messed up on the #. I ment the blue and black cichlid, or is the pic that you put when u responded to me the same fish just a different color or sex. Sorry for the confusion. Just want to make sure we are talking about the same guy. IP: Logged |

Ok I thought so. One more question, would I be able to one or two of the female kennyi mbuna in a 45 gal tank with my two bolivian Rams? Would they get along or would the kennyi mbuna be too agressive and too big for them to be compatible? thanx IP: Logged |

CSJ is right, kennyis are pretty aggressive. I wouldn't try it. -Chelle IP: Logged |
