Hi Folks,
I've started feeding my balas with live worms, is there any disadvantage feeding live worms in a planted tank? Noticed that some worms just fell in the soil and goes deep and nowhere to be found, is there's a possibility that they can multiply beneath the soil? If so, how can get rid of them when they multiply? Thanks

What type of worms are they?

It is a good idea to remove any uneaten worms because if they die in the tank they will break down and foul the water.

Cut the worms in half or into smaller pieces. I had the same problem feeding red wigglers to my oscar/JD tank. On the rare occaison that a worm made it to the bottom, it immediately burrowed into the gravel never to be seen again. The problem, as t_chelle said, is that once they are under the gravel they drown pretty rapidly and foul your water as they decompose. Cutting them up before feeding kills them and they will stay on the gravel surface where your balas can find them. It is also a good idea to "flush" the worms before you feed them to your fish. Hold the worm by the "head" end and gently squeeze down the length of the worm with your index finger and thumb. This will remove all the worm waste (poop) so you don't introduce it to your tank. Do it over a sink, though, as it can be quite messy.
