i catch crayfish all the time its started w/ my brothers kids who caught me a blue crayfish since them i catch them all the time my ? is i have read up on many things about taking care of them breeding them etc.. and i will catch crayfish that r pregnate or my blue male w/ get them pregnate after i catch them anyways in all the stuff i have read up on i have yet to find out how to go about taking care of a hatchling... i have 5 pregnate crayfish now and 2 that their eggs have just hatched i know the mom will carry them under her tail until their 2nd molt but after that they r still so tiny.... any suggestions??????

just keep feeding them and they should do fine. but im no expert at crayfish.

Be sure to escape-proof your tank by covering any holes at the top. Crayfish can and will escape your tank if the mood strikes them. Also, make sure the water is highly oxygenated by agitating the water surface so it ripples. HOB filters are good for this so if you are not using one, get one to supplement your current filtration setup. Low oxygen levels in the water will make a cray try to get out of the water. Crays are cannabilistic so you should move the hatchlings to a separate tank or the adults may eat them. Breeding fish dramatically increases your stocking levels and too many fry may overload your bio-load as they grow in time.

BTW, IMO, pregnant crays should always be left in the wild. It has a negative environmental impact when you remove breeding females of any species from their natural habitat.

thank u 4 the info and as of right now she still has some of the babies under her tail so i dont wanna take her out and put her in the tank w/ the other crayfish w/ them attached... as far as having to many of them i sell the blue ones in my aunts pet store sometimes i get a requset 4 the regular ones soooo.... as far as the mom being pregnate when i catch her i have onnly had 2 that i have caught and they have had sucess in their eggs hatching the rest of my crayfish i have caught awhile back and after they have been in the tank w/ the male then they become pregnate

Blue crayfish (or blue lobsters as they are sometimes called) go for around $25.00 at my lfs. They are one of the more expensive fresh water fishes I have seen. Sounds like a lucrative business you got going there.
