I have a 10" Red Bellied Pacu that has gotten a sore on his nose from, I believe, running into things in my tank. I have removed everything from the tank, tried aquarium salt, Melafix, and raising the temp., but the sore has gotten worse instead of getting better. Any ideas? I have a 30 Gallon tank I could use for a Hospital Tank if need be. IP: Logged |

What are your water parameters? Sometimes if they're not pristine, wounds won't heal. Also, just in case you don't know it, red bellied pacus can get close to 3 feet long and will about a 500 gallon aquarium. -Chelle [This message has been edited by t_chelle16 (edited 03-05-2004).] IP: Logged |

The water conditions are good. The pH is 6.7, the ammonia is 4.0 ppm (somewhat high now due to a new filter, but normally 0 ppm), nitrite is .25 ppm.. I just put him in a 30 gal. hospital tank and started him on Mardel Maracyn, which is a broad spectrum antibiotic. IP: Logged |
