I have a 10" Red Bellied Pacu that has gotten a sore on his nose from, I believe, running into things in my tank. I have removed everything from the tank, tried aquarium salt, Melafix, and raising the temp., but the sore has gotten worse instead of getting better. Any ideas?
I have a 30 Gallon tank I could use for a Hospital Tank if need be.

What are your water parameters? Sometimes if they're not pristine, wounds won't heal.

Also, just in case you don't know it, red bellied pacus can get close to 3 feet long and will about a 500 gallon aquarium.

The water conditions are good. The pH is 6.7, the ammonia is 4.0 ppm (somewhat high now due to a new filter, but normally 0 ppm), nitrite is .25 ppm.. I just put him in a 30 gal. hospital tank and started him on Mardel Maracyn, which is a broad spectrum antibiotic.
