Are you sure it was the AlgaeFix? There are a lot of different variables involved in keeping fish healthy. What size was the tank? How long had it been running/was it cycled? What were your water parameters (ammonia, nitrIte, nitrAte)?

I've used a product called Algae Destroyer before and it never hurt my fish. But guppies can be pretty delicate in my experience and with a whopping 45 I would imagine that it wouldn't take much for them to "kick the bucket". Have you ever put any other brands of algaecides or additives in with your fish?
