I have a ten gallon tank, and a few days ago I bought a marble mollie(male), a gold dust mollie(male) and one other mollie(female).

I have a few questions, this is really my first tank with anything except goldfish. I looked up alot of stuff about mollies on the web, and first off I'm worried that two males will be hard on my female. I can't really go buy more females, because it's a band new tank, and I don't think it'd go too well with more than three fish in it.

Also, I've read that mollies like brackish water. The guy at the pet store didn't mention this. Should I be buying some sea salt for them, or will they do just fine in fresh water? If I do need salt, how much for brackish water? Do I ever need to put more salt in?

The last thing I'm wondering about is breeding. Will my three diffrent types of mollies interbreed? Is there anything I can do to make them decide to mate? How long are mollies pregnant?

Thanks to everyone who responds

YES MOLLIES WILL DO GREAT IN BRACKISH WATER. YOU DO NOT NEED TO BY SEA SALT THOUGH. THERE IS SALT OUT THERE THAT YO CAN BY FOR ALOT CHEAPER THAN THAT. I BELIEVE THAT AQUARIUM PHARMICUTICLES MAKES A GOOD SALT. AS FAR AS HOW MUCH TO ADD. JUST FOLLOW THE DIRECTIONS ON THE BOX. IF YOU DO ADD SALT TO YOUR 10 GALLON DO NOT EXPECT TO HAVE LIVE PLANTS. IF THAT WAS EVEN AN OPTION FOR YOU. LIVE PLANTS WILL DIE IN SALT OR BRACKISH WATER. YOUR MOLLIES MAY BREED BETWEEN THE SPECIES, BUT NOT FOR A WHILE. GET YOUR TANK ESTABLISHED BEFORE YOU TRY BREEDING. IF YOU ARE WORRIED ABOUT YOUR MALES FIGHTING WITH THE ONE FEMALE, BYE SOME LIVE BACTERIA CALLED (CYCLE). THIS PRODUCT WORKS VERY WELL. IT IS A BIT SPENDY BUT WORTH IT IF YOU WANT TO ADD A LOT OF FISH AT ONCE. HOPE THIS HELPS. ERIC

Mollies do like brackish water but they can live in freshwater as well. If you decide to put salt in for them that will limit the other types of fish you can put in the tank as well as the live plants. Two males on one female would be hard on all involved, since you already have three fish I would say go ahead and get another female. You might need to take a little extra care for one more but it shouldn't be too much more work than you're in for already.

Even 2 females they will be harrassed. Take a male back and exchange it for a female.

Mollies will do OK in lightly brackish water, in which case some tougher leaved plants (java fern) should be able to adapt.
