What are the size and dimensions of your tank? Is it a freshwater, saltwater or reef tank?

You'd do fine with flourescents or VHO(very high output) flourescents. If you have the money, compact flourescents are easier on electricity and last a long time. 2-3 watts per gallon should be OK as long as your tank isn't too tall. Look for lights around 6000 Kelvin (K) and over 70 CRI.
