do you have an atuo feeder on the o's tank? i read somewhere that the fish with the territory where the food sorce comes in will grow faster and be domanant is this fact or fiction? ------------------ early bird gets the worm! but the second mouse gets the chesse! IP: Logged |

Nope, no auto feeder. They're a pair (haven't bred yet, but they've started showing signs of mating) so there's really no problems with aggression or dominance. I can see how that can happen though. And if there was a problem with territroy & food, it would be a good idea to get a bigger tank. Although 75 is the bare minimum for 2 oscars as far as bioload goes, it ONLY works if the 2 oscars get along (like mine do). A breeding pair of oscars will share the same territory whereas 2 individual oscars are going to try to establish 2 seperate territories. In a 75 gallon tank, they're going to be awfully small territories. -Chelle IP: Logged |

how did you get a hold of a pair?? pure luck? hevy prices? or a bunch then just keep the pair. i have a bunch of angels about 3(with out tail) inches long waiting for 2 pairs for my 33 gallon then the rest go to good homes... but all they doo is school and beg for food lol IP: Logged |

Pure luck. I bought Shebert (lutino) and another tiger oscar at Walmart (they were both just under 2"). I ended up with a really horrible ich outbreak and the tiger was very bad off (even had ich on his gills) and wasn't getting better so I had to euthanize him. So I later went back to Walmart and bought Charlie because I liked his markings and he was the same size as Sherbert (nearly 3"). They've been inseperable since. -Chelle IP: Logged |

Believe it or not, Murphy (the betta in the 1 gallon) came from Walmart. I was really surprised to see such a nice looking betta there. -Chelle [This message has been edited by t_chelle16 (edited 03-02-2004).] IP: Logged |

It's the same way here. They're also stacked at least 2 high so poor Murphy was on the bottom way in the back. They have recently switched to slightly larger containers, but he was still only in 8oz of water. And out of curiosity, I checked the parameters when I got home. Ammonia was 1, nitrIte .25, and nitrAte 20. And they had just gotten the shipment in the day before so I really feel sorry for the bettas that where still there after a week. -Chelle IP: Logged |

yeah 2 hight here too. at least at our lfs in courtenay they put the betas in thier tanks 1 in each tank (if it has ok tank mates) and the rest go in this contraption that hangs on the front with about 6 2.5"x2.5"x2.5" compartmenst with small holse for the water to be exchanged still cramped but better then the tinie contanir IP: Logged |

Geocities doesn't allow outside linking. To see the pic everyone will have to right clik on the pic, click properties, highlight & copy the url, then paste it in the address box on the browser. And yes, a betta would love a 5 or 10 gallon (I have one in a 10 gallon right now). They prefer around 78* but can tolerate lower temps (no lower than about 72*). As for snails that breed quickly, I bought some live plants for one of my tanks and ended up with some ramshorn snails that are breeding like crazy. -Chelle IP: Logged |

I just upgraded Murphy & spot (pond snail) to a 2 gallon and he seems quite pleased with the extra room.
