I moved my betta into a six gallon tank almost a week ago. The tank is in good shape. It's clean, the water tests come out great, and I let the tank filter for four days before I put in my 4 fish (betta, 2 zebra danios, and an otto). The betta seems pretty unhappy about the current in the tank, but I put in a couple of shelters so it could protect itself if it needed to. Yet it spends most of the day sitting on it's head! I'm not kidding. I've never seen anything like it. Furthermore it spends the remainder of it's time fighting with it's reflection in the thermometer back. It's been developing stripes which I was informed earlier were called "fear stripes." These only develop when it is in the process of "fighting with the themometer" and they fade out pretty quickly when he goes back to sitting on his head. What the heck is going on!!!! Am I crazy or is it my fish?

Take a look at this... http://img23.photobucket.com/albums/v70/Llynzeee3/Crazy%20fish/

Hmmm...lol...
I dont know if your fish is insane- maybe he has found that position to be safer for him. My suggestion would be to replace your thermometer if he is afraid of it...lol You can get the free floating ones where there will be minimal reflection. "Fear stripes" can't be a good thing.

Maybe you just have a gymnyst for a fish...

Good luck!

I'd advise more plants. Some tall, stiffer ones under the filter outlet to break the current, and some bushy ones to cover the reflection in the thermometer.

Yea I think I'd better get rid of the thermometer at least. I already have it hidden amidst the plants. He has to put in quite the effort to get to it. With this particular fish it's just one thing after another. He's one of the weirdest I've had yet.
