hi, i have 2 blue female gouramis, and one chases the other al the time - its quite scary to watch cos they are so fast, they zip around the tank all the time. I didn't think these fish were aggressive with each other?? I have already returned 1 red tailed shark cos they were fighting, i don't wanna return my gourami as well!! When I got them they were really sweet they always followed each other everywhere - How can I make them love each other again?! IP: Logged |

I won't get the blue gouramis because they are supposed to be pretty agressive. The opaline is bluish in color as well with pretty markings and he is not as aggressive. He has his moments, but hides mostly in between the rocks. Another more agressive gourami is snakeskin and paradise. NTC IP: Logged |

I think pretty much all gouramis tend to be aggressive (especially with other gouramis). I used to have an opaline gourami that would not leave my emerald cats alone; they were always cowering in the corner. You can try rearranging the decorations. I know it sometimes works for cichlids, but I don't know about gouramis. Other than that, there's really not much you can do. -Chelle IP: Logged |

Some common gouramis, such as blue, gold and opaline gourami, are semi-aggresive that do best with smaller, fast fish (such as barbs). There are several passive species of gourami including the various dwarf varieties and the pearl gourami. I wouldn't recommend kissing or giant gouramis for the aquarium - unless it's very large. Most gouramis require lots of plant cover, preferably floating along the top as well. For my brother's gouramies he got plants that suctioned to the sides and then floated along the top and he said he noticed a big change in the behaviour of the fish. There are many others that are a little harder to find, and there temperments vary. You'll have to research specific varieties. IP: Logged |

dwarf gouramis can be really mean little buggers as well. plus I've had terrible luck keeping them alive. I personally think they are inbred too much or something messed up with their genetics.. talking about neon and flame here. male gouramis tend to become more passive if there's a female around to distract him.. and females aren't nearly as aggressive as the males, I've found. my pearls do fine with angels, if that tells you anything. and I second the motion for lots of plant cover!
