My texas has black under his chin and belly.I think its new because i never noticed it before.Is it normal or a disease or a sign of maturity or a sign of fighting?

The Texas cichlid is a big beautiful fish that, like many other cichlids, requires a large tank. It can grow to 12 inches, is very agressive and likes uprooting plants.
If it is small, then expect some change. The adults typically have blotches of white and black all over.
Check for ammonia with a test kit from your pet shop. Ammonia can cause black burns on fishes if left unchecked. If your tank is small then ammonia may be a problem.

Could it be stressed or more likely he's ready to find a woman! Here's a photo of a Texas in breeding color from Jeff Rapps' site. http://tangledupincichlids.com/images/escon2.jpg. In this pic. it show a texas with black under the chin. My ammonia was 2.0 could that could of caused that to burn my fish? Wow 2.0, I can't remember ever getting a reading like that on any of my established tanks. Is this a new setup? If not what does your routine maintenance include? I would do a large water change right away.

It is a established tank and i did a 30 % water change yesterday. But im would really like too know if it his harmful or deadly if my texas has black stuff under his chin. none of the other fish have it on there chin.

I would be more worried right now about your test results. 2.0 is this correct? What kind of test did you use? I ran across a site with the LC50 for ammonia in freshwater tanks but can't find it now. I can tell you that 2.0 is not good if your fish is not dieing now it will be. If I remember right the long term LC50 is like .04 for most fish. Long term being 96 hours.
