What size tank do you have? Do you have any prefference for a certain type, size, personality, color? -Chelle IP: Logged |

For a bottom feeder, you could get some cory cats or otos. If you want one nice pretty fish, you could get a dwarf gourami or betta. Or you could have some smaller fish like guppies, small tetras, mollies, platies, etc. If you want something unusual, you could try african dwarf frogs, but they are nocternal so if you want something active during the day, I wouldn't recommend them. Also, could you answer a few questions? How long was your tank originally set up? Did you cycle it before adding fish? Were you monitering your water parameters (ammonia, nitrIte, nitrAte)? If the tank wasn't cycled first and you weren't keeping your water parameters in check, they were probably off the chart which may explain the ich/dying fish. Here is a really good article on fishless cycling. I suggest you do that before getting any new fish. http://www.tomgriffin.com/aquamag/cycle2.html -Chelle IP: Logged |

Cycling your tank involves creating an environmenta for the growth of ammonia and nitrite consuming bacteria. You need small amounts of ammonia produced over several weeks. This can be done by starting with a single fish or by the fishless method with PURE ammonia (cannot contain surfactants, perfume, etc). Either way the process takes 3-4 weeks (although some tanks can take a little longer). By putting in several fish without a population of bacteria the waste builds up and poisons the fish. For more info on cycling and the nitrogen cycle see the articles on the website here (seperate from the msg board). IP: Logged |
