i found some here very cheap and i plan on ordering from them soon as i figure out what i want to do with my 30 gal

my buddy had some in his 180 gal tank right infront of the filter inlets im sure they helped out the filtering but they were just cool to watch open and close in the back ground they also moved around the tank till they found spots they liked they are cool
i think the fish gave them a hard time sometimes but they just closed and waited it out http://store.yahoo.com/aquaticplantdepot/

Generally the biggest problem with clams is people add copper based meds to the water and kill them. Clams are effective at removing detritus from the tank, which will help lower overall ammonia and nitrates produced, but you'll still have to do regular water changes. Basically, they're insurance against overfeeding, etc. Other things to watch is they require a certain amount of calcium to grow and maintain their shell. If you have very soft, or somewhat acidic water conditions you may have to provide a source of calcium. I'm skepticle about how big a problem it is as I've never personally seen it (and snails live in peat bogs), but apparently it can happen.
