How big is your tank? If your tank is large enough for the fish you may want to take them out and rearrange decorations before putting them back in. This will give them a chance to claim their own "territory". Make sure there's plenty of hiding places. I'm assuming that these are saltwater reef parrots and not freshwater blood parrots? What are you feeding them? IP: Logged |

Anytime you have fishes that are semi-agressive, and large (when full grown) you must be sure to add them all at the same time. When you add fishes all at the same time, you decrease the possibility of territory wars in the tank. It seems like your only mistake was adding the 2 new parrots. The old ones feel threatened. I am also wondering if you are talking about the freshwater hybrid parrot fish. Please let us know. The war may grow bloody, or subside to nothing. In the meantime, keep them well fed. IP: Logged |

Thanks for the advice. Those are freshwater parrots.I am still separating the parrots.I 'm thinking of getting another tank or a small pond. But it is not so advisable due to limited spaces. I have been feeding the parrots with the normal dried fish-shrimp fish food. They love it very much. Last two days, I realized the small human made cave in the tank covered with million of transparent eggs.Few are white in colour. The parrots guiding the eggs all the time.I wondered if it fish-eggs? However all the eggs disappeared yesterday, left only the white color egg.And there is no baby fish.Anything wrong with the way I keep my parrots??The parrots eating their own eggs or it is only parasite's eggs?? What size is the tank? Parrots can get 8" long so they really need at least 75 gallons for 4 of them. It definitely does sound like eggs - which would explain some of the aggression. If they're white, they are not fertilized (fertilized eggs will turn yellow). It also sounds like they got eaten which is pretty common. -Chelle IP: Logged |

If there were alot of eggs most of them brown and a few white ones and now only white ones chances are that the parent moved them. I don't know too many specifics on breeding parrots but in general most fish will take very good care of them. The white eggs are the ones that did not get fertilized. Somehow most fish can tell and will move the good eggs away from the bad ones. You should try to remove the white ones if you can. They will begin to break down rapidly adding waste to the tank. This is probably the main reason there is alot of fighting going on as well. Try to see which was the parent fishes and move them to a tank by themselfs. ------------------ IP: Logged |

Fertilized eggs will be a yellowish/orangish/brownish. Basically, anything in that general spectrum that isn't white. And some fish take a couple tries to get parenting right. They may eat the eggs or totally ignore them even if they are fertilized. -Chelle IP: Logged |

Some was white in colour and mostly no colour. It is mean not fertilized at all?? All the transperant colour egg gone, leaving only the white colour eggs..It is mean, my parrots both female?? I might have to wait for sometime now for the next batch of eggs..I bet my tank is too small-40 gallons. IP: Logged |

I have never heard of anyone successfully breeding parrots. I have also been told since they are hybrid fish, they cannot breed. I think they are a cross between the severum and the red devil. The only way to make a parrot is by crossing the sev and RD. Watch out as they can become very agressive when mature. I'm not saying the eggs wont hatch, anything is possible. If they do, please tell us about it! Good luck with them. [This message has been edited by Hooben (edited 02-24-2004).] IP: Logged |

I have actaully heard of a couple cases of parrots breeding, but I do believe that it is very rare and most are infertile. However, not all hybrids are infertile. I have a couple of OB peacocks that breed. -Chelle [This message has been edited by t_chelle16 (edited 02-24-2004).] IP: Logged |

my angelfish eggs look nothing like that! not nearly as many either. I have seen a batch turn into wigglers, and never were that color. they stayed a grayish clear. my fish lay eggs every week or so and these eggs are promptly eaten up (I suspect the pleco and cherry barbs). the couple times I saw wigglers I had no pleco in the tank. the day I got a new pleco (had moved my big one to the 55gal and got a small one for my 37gal) is the day the eggs started vanishing. dianenm, Have you ever tried hatching them in a seperate tank? How many eggs would you say she is laying. Angelfish should lay about 150 - 200 eggs every 7-14 days. Maybe if you added a slate she would lay more eggs. ------------------ IP: Logged |

Ok Little cheri. I love the blood parrots, unlike alot of aquariumist. I have 11 of them at this time. Blood parrots will always lock lips in sort of a mock battle. I have yet for one to kill the other. The male is always the domminate one and comes out on top. This usually happens when they are begining to mate which sounds if they have. As most blood parrot males are infertile this is usually unsuccesful. To break up the fighting make sure you remove the eggs which are white if not fertile. Also try moving around the decorations as this will help restablish there teritories. I know these are a hybrid fish and wish some people would give them half a chance. To visit a place that has alot of info on the subject and are real knowledgable about this particular breed of fish http://www.bloodparrot.aquariahobbyist.com Have fun with your babies hopefully I could be of some help.
