Quick question here: My mom has one very small harlequin rasbora. She started with six and he is the only one left (they were from Wal-Mart, need I say more?). I have two harlequins in my tank and she wants to move her survivor into my tank. She thinks he will be happier with some friends of the same species. I've never moved a fish before. It's just down the hall to my tank but how would you all suggest doing it? Should I float him like he just came from the store or is this whole undertaking a bad idea? And yes, we do realize that our tanks are probably overcrowded. Thank you!

Here's her setup:
29 gal. 5 gold tetras, 8 white clouds, 6 zebra danios, 1 harlequin rasbora, 1 male betta, 2 female bettas, 3 rummynose tetras, 3 cardinals, 3 blackskirt tetras.

Mine: 20 gal. 1 male betta, 2 harlequins, 2 guppies, 1 pictus cat, 2 clown loaches, 4 lemon tetras, 2 pristella tetras, 1 silvertip, and 3 chinese algae eaters.

I know people are gonna flame me, but when I've moved fish, also down the hall, I scoop them in the net, cup my hand around the net so no fish jumping out, and then RUN to the other tank and plop the fish in. Never had any problems. LOL
I'm sure someone here has a better method though. : )

for moving a fish i put it in a littel tuperware box and then put it near the other tank and add some of the other tanks water but if they are the same temp i just do what you do....

Hi tina1, What you are doing is correct. Remember that everything in a tank is measured in parts per million. It doesn't take a whole lot of change to stress fish out. Keep up the good work.

when i move fish i put the fish and theyre old tanks water in a ziplock bag, and let it sit for 5 minutes. it works the best for me, theve lived through it once and once again.
