Hi chipper, I really don't recommend keeping Sliders or any turtle for that matter, with fish. Fish that are large enough for him not to eat will pick on him. I have kept them in tanks (when I didn't know any better), and I have also raised them in ponds. Tanks are basically unacceptable because they need to get out of the water from time to time and like to sunbathe. Also unless they are kept absolutely clean in a tank they develop salmonilla on their shells. Outdoor ponds are ideal for them because of their requirements and their nature to sunbathe. In my outdoor pond I kept a few feeder goldfish which they rarely bothered due to the Water Hyacinth that I floated on the water. The Water Hyacinth is an excellent food source for them but can be difficult to obtain since it is outlawed by many states because it will take over and block waterways. It is fine for a closed water system and puts out a beautiful flower when in bloom. Hope this helps. [This message has been edited by kc5gvn (edited 02-18-2004).] IP: Logged |

I guess I won't. I have no pond, but I put in a good size basking area and it is only one turtle. IP: Logged |
