To measure your water parameters, you will need test kit (can be bought at most LFS's) for at least ammonia, nitrIte, and nitrAte. These should be 0ppm ammonia & nitrIte, and less than 20ppm nitrAte. pH is the acidity or alkalinity of your water. Most fish will have an ideal pH, but IMO, a stable pH somewhere between 6 and 8 is much more important that having it at the perfect level. Constantly trying to adjust the pH can be very stressfull for the fish. The ideal temperature for most tropical fish is somewhere around 78*. As for knowing if it's sick, it really depends on the illness. -Chlele IP: Logged |
