I have a tsnk with 8 chilids, recently one of them had its tail bit off. I want to know if the tail will regrow of if the fish will have to suffer the rest of his life. IP: Logged |

Ciclids are very territorial, and sometimes the African variety will bite a tail off another. It happens after constant chasing and nipping over time. Make sure and provide plenty of rocky hiding places with plants to hide in. If the chasing stops, then the tail will re-grow. Keep a close eye on their behavior. A larger tank will also help reduce the stress of territorial fighting. IP: Logged |

It would be nice to have at least one cave per fish. Holey limestone rock is good for the smaller ones, also great for the water. you could get some big fake plants and fake rock towers and this helps a lot too. even a fake rock structure turned on its side, they will go up inside the bottom to use as a cave. also, big fake logs. can't emphasize how important lots of hiding places/territories are. If it's just the fin part, it should grow back. Adding Melafix will help. And like eveyrone else said, if they are africans, they need lots of caves. -Chelle IP: Logged |
