This is going to a very simple post. I have discovered guppies. Before I jump right into buying some, I want to know everything there is to know. Any info on them and their water conditions would be helpful. Thanks to all!!!!

About the most important thing I know is that if you keep both males and females they will breed almost indifferently to the water conditions. And unfortunately if you want to keep the babies, the number of tanks in your house is sure to grow. At least in my experience. Another thing I have learned in my guppy keeping years (I got my first when I was seven) guppies are notoriously delicate, at least for me. Nearly every time I have purchased guppies about 1/2 of the amount I bought will die within 24 hours. This has just been my experience no matter where I bought them or how my water or tank was set up. I would urge you to purchase them from a place with at least a 72 hour guarantee on their fish. Good luck! No matter how hard they have been for me I've never found a fish I enjoy more!
Oh, also... it has been helpful to me to find out when the fish stores get their shipments and buy my guppies on the day before another shipment arrives. For example: My LFS gets their fish on Tuesdays, so I go in to buy them on Monday because then the fish I have to choose from have at least been alive one week already.
