My GF Betta is still chilling out mostly at the bottom of the tank. Its in a 5 gallon tank, and the tank has been running for a total of 4 days. It seems like it wants to be more active, but it seems to have trouble swimming. It was sitting on a plant at the top of the tank, and we tried to feed it. It tried to go for it, but the filter pushed it away before he could get it. As he went for it, he fell back to the bottom. I changed .5 of a gallon of the water in the tank today to cut down on the toxic level after some advice. IP: Logged |

yea, bettas can be lazy fish like that....if u think the current is too strong for the fish then try to put sumthing in to slow it down (few rocks by the source of the current) like i already stated tho, bettas chill at the bottom usually no matter the size of the tank so dont worry. IP: Logged |

Sometimes u can lift the intake tube slightly to reduce the flow. ------------------ IP: Logged |

I still need to know the exact numbers for your ammonia, nitrIte, and nitrAte. If you don't want to buy the test kits, then take a sample of your water to the LFS and have them test it (should be free). If the tank is cycling, chances are the levels are so high that doing a 10% water change isn't going to bring them down much. I would suggest at least 50% water changes. And it does sound like the current is too strong. In my 10 gallon, I put a tall plant with broad leaves in front of the filter outlet and that helped cut down the current quite a bit. -Chelle IP: Logged |

Well the current may not be to its liking, but that is not all the reason why it sits on the bottom. We are just college students, so can't always go out and get the stuff. By friday we will go get a test kit, becuase it does sound like something that would be handy. We will do a water change tomorrow if you think it needs another one so soon. IP: Logged |
