"Anyways, how do you keep your oscars from plucking the plants up"

Note the large rocks in front of each plant. All the plants are artificial ones that I got at the craft store so they have nice long stems. I just bent over the bottom 6" of the stem and put a rock on top of it. So far they've only managed to uproot the one on the far left once and pulled one leaf off the middle one.

I used to have a few nice live plants in there, but once the oscars reached 6", they declared war on the plants so I had to remove what was left of them.

Maybe you intimidated everyone with that shirtless pic. They're so awed by your bare chest that they are afraid they can't compete.

Hey T Chelle
Thanks for the tip- the idea of getting plants from a craft store is a great one!! I find large plastic plants to be outrageously expensive from aquarium stores(for what they are.) Also, in your aquarium, do you have a blue light?
Cheers

Honestly, the credit for the craft store plants goes to someone on another forum. I didn't actually come up with the idea so I can't take all the credit for it.

And yes, I sort of have blue light. None of the LFS's in the area carry blue bulbs and I don't want to go into the city just for that. So I just took a blue sharpie marker and colored a little on the glass below the light. The fish don't seem to mind and I like it because it makes the light a little less harsh.

t_chelle16,
I wanted to try ur blue light idea but I was wondering if I could color right on the bulb with the blue sharpie? Would the heat of the bulb(flourescent) react with the maker and give off fumes? Anyway, I think that it's a good idea and I just wanted to give it a try.

I was thinking about coloring on the bulb to, but I also wan't sure what the heat would do. Sharpie marker will come off with nail polish remover so if you don't like it, you can always take it off. Just make sure you're coloring on the outside/top of the glass so it won't come in contanct with the water.

Here I am finally! The first one is me, the second is my african cichlid Artie, the third is a panorama I stitched together of my 20 gallon community. The two blurs in the front are my clown loaches by their cave, fourth is my betta Spike.
