the question about your oscars and pacu living in a 5 gallon tank..your going to need a 55 gallon tank just for the 2 oscars by themselves...i have 2 oscars in a 55 gallon tankand i went to some prefessionals about the oscars in the 55 and they said 2 oscars in a 55 gallon tank (if you change the water 1 time a week and keep the tank at 80 degrees and feed em regularly) they should grow to be 1 1/2--2 feet each.

He wasn't much of a professional if he gave you lame advice like that. You'll need a 75 at the bare minimum for two water-dogs, preferably a 100 gallon.

I wouldn't believe a word those "profesionals" said. Oscars do not get 2 feet long. 18 inches is considered an unusually large oscar, but most max out at around 14 inches. And even if they did get 2 feet long, how on earth could 2 two foot oscars be happy in a tank that is only a foot wide and 4 feet long (that would be only 2 fish lengths)? Common sense should tell you that isn't good for the fish.

I agree with dvross, 2 oscars need at a bare minimum 75 gallons (and even that will ONLY work if the oscars actually like eachother which is somewhat rare).

And I will admit, there are people who have managed to keep 2 oscars alive in a 55 gallon tank, HOWEVER just because they were alive, it doesn't mean they were happy and thriving. And it also takes a lot of work. You have to be religious about checking your water parameters, have MASSIVE amounts of filtration, and do large water changes AT LEAST twice a week. IMO, it really isn't worth the trouble or the stress it puts on the fish.

Yes, I must agree with the above two. Whoever told you that advice, has obviously never had oscars for any length of time.
