Ok....I got a 55 gallon tank that I just set up yesterday. (This is not my first tank, just so you all know that...my name is Aqua and I am an addict) I have a 30 hex that has 3 adult angels in it. 2 females and a male. They seem to keep the one female in the lower back part of the tank...its not good for her and she is very unhappy about this. Can I put her in the 55 right off the bat (to help cycle the tank) or should I wait until the tank has run its cycle and then add her. Poor honey is soooo unhappy. Any advice would be helpful. Thanks IP: Logged |

It will be extremely hard on her to use her to cycle the tank. Are there fish in the tank already - or what steps have you taken for a fishless cycle? I would recommend adding all 3 angels at the same time so they can establish territories. IP: Logged |

thanks for the fast reply on this...right now there is a goldfish in there. I don't plan on moving the other 2 angels into the 55. There are quite happy living together in the 30....(they are in luuuuuvvvv..LOL.sorry) anyways, I have used some gravel from an established tank in this new one and also an established filter. I just feel bad for her. I hope this helps IP: Logged |

Well, it's a question of the worst of two evils. If you think that the other two angels are actually beating on her she may be better off with the move, as the filter and gravel will at least provide a jumpstart. If you do, be sure to monitor ammonia/nitrite/nitrate levels closely to make sure she doesn't die of toxicity. BTW, what do you plan on doing with your goldfish? It likely won't do too well in an angel tank as the temp. is quite a bit higher than what they need. Some small tropicals may be a better idea if your LFS will take the goldfish back. IP: Logged |

The goldfish is actually my son's. I borrowed him out of his 5 gallon tank to help with the cycling of this one. He said he is going to charge me a users fee LOL. As an addict, I am contantly checking the water perameters of all of my tanks....catch it before its a problem is my motto. Thanks for the advice and anymore is welcome. IP: Logged |

if the goldfish has been healthy in there for a while then the angelfish should be okay. make sure the temperature is right and that the tank has cycled for a week. then it should be truly safe for her. good luck IP: Logged |

TL: I moved her to the 55. I couldn't stand to see her sooooo unhappy. The other 2 luv birds seemed to have banished her to the lower back part of the tank....I took a real good look at her before I moved her today. Her fins were semi-clamped. That did it for me. I chose what I felt was the lesser of 2 evils. She is now swimming happily and guess what....her fins are not clamped. Now we wait and see if she can handle the cycling. I will keep you posted. i too love my angels!!! IP: Logged |

No worries, if you put in established gravel and filter then your tank is cycled. I have set up many tanks using this method never had a problem. To ease your mind siphon out some established water (from the top) and throw it in for good measure. ------------------ IP: Logged |
