I hear alot of people say that their pirahna won't eat around them and they dont like bright light. The latter is true but they can be trained if you get them early. I have had my pirahna since they were one week. They have been in a tank with blue rocks and BRIGHT light. I didn't have anywhere for them to hide at first then I got merciful and bought them a cave. They will eat FASTER with the light off but will eat in front of me one minute after I put the fish in. It doesn't hurt that I have always put my face close to the tank so that we can study each other so they couldnt care less if I were in the room while they chase fish around the tank. Anyway, My fish have been turning black lately. What am I doing wrong in there care. They are my first fish and I have had them over a year now winging it.....still! Hi bigred, Turning black just sounds like they are getting their adult colors. The biggest concern is tank space. With 5 you need about 200 gallons. IP: Logged |

So that is normal for them to lose there red color and turn black? They have turned black then turned back grey and red after a few days before. I'll keep monitoring them. I am supposed to move to Atlanta soon and plan on taking them with me. Anything I should keep in mind on this 10 hour trip? IP: Logged |

It sounds to me like your piranah are getting ready to mate apparently this is natural to all species of piranah when they are in mating season. IP: Logged |
