Did you note the measurements of the tank? I have many friends whom have purchased the Walmart 55g special. Although the included accessories are junk, the tank has never left anyone disappointed..

This is odd. I have one of the Walmart 55 gallon specials too. The dimensions are 48" x 12 1/2" x 20". That works out to 12000 cubic inches.

On one site, it says to convert cubic inches to gallons, you multiply by .004329. That comes out as just under 52 gallons.

Another site says to convert cubic inches to gallons, you divide by 231 which still comes out at a little less than 52 gallons.

So I don't know about it being less than 44 gallons, but it definitely isn't 55.

I have a wal-mart tank as well and it has been great. The assessories that comes with it (filter, pump, etc.) are indeed crap as previously mentioned. If you can get past the fact that you are supporting a pretty evil corporation, it is a pretty good tank. I would recommend to anyone though to check the newspapers first.

The math never works out right for the 55 gallon. The accessories Wally world includes with the tank are bare minimum for the tank size. Wal-mart or Wally world as I like to put it should never ever have gotten into the fish buisness. They higher people that dont know jack about fishes and the proper care of fishes. Down with Wally worlds fish department. Just my thoughts on the subject but who am I.

wally worlds tanks tend to bow after time as well. Not only are they not glass they are cheap.

P.S, Don't drink and type.

"Not only are they not glass"

I assure you my tank is indeed glass. It's been up and running for a little over a year and other than the POS filter (I HATE Whisper filters) and heater that came with it, I haven't had any problems. But I do find it somewhat odd that it really isn't 55 gallons.

Hi t_chelle16,Those are the dimensions of a standard 55 gallon tank. What's even more interesting is that those dimensions are the outside of the tank and not the interior which would give you a more precise measurement of water. You have to take the thickness of the glass off plus the amount that the glass on the bottom of the tank is recessed. I haven't run the calculations but that may put you closer to the 44 gallons mentioned.

Mine is 1/8" glass, and has metal framing.... I've had no problems so far.

My wally world sells the 55 complete, with filter and such, for $129 bucks. Even though its a hob filter, and a little cheesy on the stuff with it, I think that is one of the better deals you can find out there. The tanks I have seen, are just fine. Never seen one leaking, or a single problem with the tanks themselves.

I would suggest one to anyone who is on a tight budget, and needs a larger tank.

As for actuall gallons, rarely will you find a tank that is the true gallons it says. Its like engines, manufactures tend to round up. It would be odd to be selling a 53 gallon tank, just like chevy would sound odd if it said the vette came with a 5.6 litre engine. They call it a 5.7

i was in petcetra last week and the tank prices are pretty fair, a way bigger selection then wally world.
the price of fish at petcetra are crazy they are way to expensive.
the one thing that caught my eye was they had the Fluval 404 on sale for 119$ down from 189$. i hope the sale is still on im gonna get one.
