My husband and I recently got a fancy goldfish. He used to be active and now he is not. He just lays on the bottom of the tank in one spot. He is breathing which is good that he is alive. We have received large amounts of snow outside and it is freezing outside. Is it possible that we need a heater for our tank. But if we get a heater, will that kill our other goldfish? Please help us!

Hi there, I'm afraid I don't have great knowledge about these things but I think goldfish adapt to the water temperature they are in, as the freeze happened gradually I don't think it will be the temp outside which is affecting your fish. Unfortunately I lost all three of my goldfish two weeks ago to a nasty infection which crept up on them slowly. I'd suggest looking really hard at your fish and trying to notice anything unusual about it which might suggest an infection, then go to your local fish shop and tell them the symptoms. They are normally quite good at helping. Good luck.
