For the last month or so I've been thinking about getting some piranhas. While researching them I came across a few questions that couldn't be answered, so I was wondering if anyone knew the answers. 1st, does anyone know what the smallest size tank I could put 4 piranhas in(comforatably) 2nd, about how much are baby red bellied piranhas? 3rd, are there any other fish that I could put with them that wouldn't be eaten or harassed?

thanks

50 gallons when they get bigger. Plecostomus may work but anything you put in will get eaten eventually. Around 7-10 bucks for the babies. Good Luck!!

For four red-bellies a 75 gal tank would be good. Piranhas are messy eaters, carnivores, and produce a lot of protein waste so you should probably double the amount of filtration you would normally use. Believe it or not, piranhas are shy fish so try to avoid agressive tank mates to reduce stress. A full-grown red belly will be about 9" long and have a mouth full of razor sharp teeth, so be careful sticking your arm in the tank if they are hungry! Also, keep them well fed so tankmates don't start looking like meals. Piranhas in the wild typically inhabit murky water where visibility is very low so nature has given them an excellent sense of smell. Any blood in the water (human, animal, or fish) will trigger hunting behaviour and if you happen to be rearranging decorations, you could get attacked. A grown piranha can remove a quarter-sized chunk of flesh with one bite.

good luck
