Does anyone know if my betta's fins will grow back after being attacked by his girlfriend??? Or is that wishful thinking? They had always been separated because he was attacking her, then when I tried again she attacked him and ripped most of his fins off!! IP: Logged |

His fins will grow back in time. My wifes betta was shredded by a crayfish in a community tank. We placed him in his own bowl and treated the water with melafix to prevent infection. gook luck! IP: Logged |

Thanks Leetron, do you know if this is common behaviour for a female betta? I also had a zebra danio in with her but she started picking on him too so now I've separated them. She never use to be this aggressive. IP: Logged |

yah, his fins should grow back. you could try putting them together and just leaving them there but she might kill him. his fins will grow back over time but it might be best to keep them separated or risk the chance of one dying ![]() put in some medicine that could be recomended by a worker at a pet store but it can get pricy so shop around, good luck! They will grow back. I had a female that did this. She killed one male because there were too many cuts and they got infected before I got the medicine. The other male is alive and well. You can find BettaFix (which is what I use, works well!) At I think about any petstore! ------------------ IP: Logged |

Tannis, I have no experience with female bettas. We keep only males. I removed the offending crayfish and we returned the afflicted betta to the community tank after his torn fins healed. The fins grow back clear and then fill in with color over time. IP: Logged |

I have never seen a female betta be aggressive toward a male before. Usually it is the other way around. I have used melafix before for fish that have had fin problems. It worked wonders very quickly but the smell is enough to make you keel over. Also I have always heard that the general rule is never to keep a male with any less than three females because that way the bullying will be distributed. Good Luck. sorry for your loss...next time if this happens, add some stress coat and treat with aquarium salt. Its economical and it works!!! IP: Logged |

Sorry about your betta. For future reference, it's generally not a good idea to keep males and females together. If the male wants to breed, but the female doesn't want to, he might kill her. And if the female is getting pestered by the male too much, she might kill him (proabably what happend to yours). -Chelle IP: Logged |
