what kind of fish is it? i have to keep the feeders in a seperate tank my big oscar will eat till he cant swim he will sink to the bottom digest the fish and do it all over again. so when i get feeders i get 50 or so and keep them in a 10 gallon and net out a few and feed the oscars that way. i wouldnt suggest feeding your oscar only feeders. try feeding him meat scraps, crickets, tablets or oscar floating food stuff. feeders can cause hole in the head and you eventually will get little white wormy things that are quit small but they squiggle around on the glass (on the inside) and are just gross. i feed my oscar 3-4 feeders once or twice a month. Feeders offer little to no nutritional value over a high quality pelleted food such as Hikari, New Life Spectrum or their ilk. As puff mentioned, they can introduce disease into the tank as they are bred and stored in deplorable water conditions. They do not contribute to hole in the head nor will they result in a planaria outbreak as suggested earlier (worms). HITH (Hole In the Head) is primarily caused by poor water conditions such as high-nitrates and vitamin deficiencies. If you feel compelled to feed feeders, I recommend breeding your own, such as convicts. Even then, it should be considered a treat and not a staple food. But at least you would feel safer knowing that the fish, albeit poorer in nutrition, is at the very least - healthy. IP: Logged |
