Hi i have a 55gallon tank which is 48x18x15
I already have some zebra cichlids and 2 electric yellows, plus a plec and a sydontis, 6 fish and 2 catfish, it is a new set-up, i have not lost any fish yet? i was wondering if i could get a baby albino oscar to go along with what i already have? or would it be asking for trouble? i have had 2 oscar's b4, but never mixed them with other cichlids, only with a large plec! I thought maybe the small cichlids would end up as expensive oscar snacks? I really love the character's of oscar's, but like the colours of the other cichlids! cant offord another tank set-up yet! Any ideas? thanx..

Hi debi_uk_62, I'm afraid the smaller cichlids would become snacks. Also, if this is a new setup that hasn't gone through the initial cycle phase, Oscars produce a large amount of waste which could cause some really serious ammonia/nitrite spikes or create a cycle hang.

Thanx for the advice, do you think a bottikoferi would be ok to have with my exsisting fish? or just sell the small cichlids back to the pet shop, and start off with 4 baby oscars, only intending to keep 2 that pair off? or would that be too much hard work for my filter?
or is there any other fish that can be kept with malawi cichlids?
Thanks.......debi.

Thanx raghu, think maybe i might just get the four oscars! I like fish with an attitude! Is it true that oyster shell can rise your ph? How long does it take oscars to pair off? I was told maybe 7months is that true?
Thanx for the help!
