If algae is all you want, go down to a local pond, scoop up a gallon of water. Dump it into your tank and leave the light on and viola! you will have more algae than you know what to do with. I don't recommend this if you have existing fish in the tank though. If you do, I recommend leaving the light on throughout the day and night and putting the tank in a spot in your house where it will get natural sunlight. IP: Logged |

Hi, you can also go buy these tablets at your local pet store which are designed to produce algae in aquariums. Just follow what it says on the package. IP: Logged |

If this is a new set-up the cloudy water is likely the result of bacterial blooms due to spiking levels of ammonia and nitrites. Once you tank finishes it's initial cycle this problem should go away. As for algae, you can adjust the lighting colour and intensity to favour certain kinds of algae. What are your plans for it? Food for algae eaters or are you trying to grow hair algae etc. for breeding? IP: Logged |
