hiChronicHaze :ick is a disease that appears on fish in small white spots, the cause of ick is rapid water temperature changes and different ph levels changing. to cure it i use maracyn and marycyn 2 they are expensive to buy but effective at use. this medicine also cures other types of diseases in fish. I recommend CopperSafe also a Mardel product. It works very well but it stays in your tank for 30 days so be very careful not to add any more in those 30 days and after the 30 days do many 20% water changes to remove it all. IP: Logged |

Hi ChronicHaze, Ick is a parasite that is always in the water. It stays there in a dormant state until rapid temperature changes or bacterial problems make it active. While rapid PH changes can cause your fish to go into PH shock, it does not cause Ick. I have found MARACIDE to be very effective against Ick. Maracyn and Maracyn 2 are for fungus problems. While Copper Safe is effective against Ick it also can present problems if not removed from the tank completely after treatment. After being in the tank for some time Copper will go into a dormant state and even testing for copper will not show up while it is dormant. If at some point later you find it necessary to treat with copper again the addition of the new copper will bring the old copper out of the dormant state and cause an overdose of copper. Hope this helps. IP: Logged |
