I have a 45 gallon tank with 2 ID sharks (6" and 4"), a rainbow bosemani (who is teritorial), and a pleco. I like the way my tank looks now, bright, happy, everyone getting along, etc. However, I want to get another fish or too that will swim in the middle or near the top of the water (right now everyone is on the bottom and I want something that will swim around a little more). I know I am being specific, but I would like any ideas you all may have. PS nothing that can grow bigger then 12" or so because of the ID's. THANKS IP: Logged |

The Bosemani should be swimming in the middle to top. Probably the reason he isn't is he is by himself. I would think about adding some more Bosemani and possibly some other rainbow. Turquois and Australians are also nice. IP: Logged |

I have another rainbow in there with him. It was a female and I think he made of killed her since we was always barring at her and being very teritorial (I am not sure though they were my first bosemanis). Do you think it would be safe to put more in? How many more? Thanks. IP: Logged |

Hi, I have to assume you are going to trade in the ID's when they get larger. For the type fish you are looking at I wouldn't crowd any more than 1" fish/3 gallons. Rainbows reach about 4" at maturity. IP: Logged |

well they do suggest more than one female for the bosemani males. they are schooling fish, by the way. supposedly mating can get nasty and the female get killed by accident. I personally have never seen this or behavior close to causing damage to the female. when the males are attempting to mate they shiver all over in front of the lady fish and turn dark blue in the chin. I do think it can be quite hard to tell a female from a male with the bosemanis. I have seen some fighting with subdominat males that have resulted in a missing scale, but that's it. good luck, they are beautiful fish! IP: Logged |

Thanks everyone for your replies. I am hoping to keep the ID's and just upgrade their tanks (I know this is unrealistic, but I don't want to have to trade them when they are bigger). As for the bosemani's I think that mating is what killed my female. the male was always barring at her and casing her if she rekected him. The males are much more colorful then the females, so they are easy to tell apart. Maybe I will just get another male or two. Hopefully, with a big tank they wouldn't fight. As for a pic of the bosemani here you go http://members.fortunecity.com/d_alexander/id335.htm Thanks for all your help. PS my pleco now loves his algae wafers. IP: Logged |
