i have got a 4 to 5 inch jack dempsey. what i wanted to know was do jack dempsey's like to hide behind plants and in things. whenever i go in my room my jack dempsey runs and hides under a ceramic piece that i have leaning on a rock. he is very afraid, shy and won't let me see him.i have several fake plants and i wanted to know do they like plants? what is causing him to be so frightened? any information would be much appreciated.

Thanks

when i first got my oscar, dempsey, and terror...they where a bit shy when i came around. usually they would stay close to the both of the tank.
so i bought a couple of tinfoil barbs as dither fish and i found that my cichlids started to venture out more and more. now they're as happy as can be.

ill say soemthing that KC once said that i found interesting and useful. imagine a 50 foot tall giant coming and knocking on your door.. its kind of like you walking into your room and looking into the fish tank.. have the lights off and only turn them on for feeding and after a while they will be less shy over time.
