My gold gourami has been acting weird. He seems to be a little thin, is a little bit pale and is not eating at all. He doesn't even really startle when I walk up to the tank, and overall just seems to be out of it. I did a chemical check of the tank and everything was 0 or normal. All other fish are fine. I did a body check of him and he has no parasites on him or spots. Any ideas? He does still once in a while swim up for air from the top, but then just lets his body fall slowly to the bottom. This has been going on for about three days. NTC IP: Logged |

How old is the goami? Because i just got some gouarmies 2 weeks ago and at first they would always hide in the bushed and not do anything. Now they are always swimming around. IP: Logged |

I have had him almost two years now. I even did a move with him last August. IP: Logged |

Hi NTC, I would have my local pet shop run a check on my water to make sure I was getting an accurate reading with my test kits. The only other reason that I can think of for your Gourami to be acting in such a manner is if you have done a large warer change, that changed all of the water parameters or PH too quickly. Ok, I guess I can do that, but if the water was that far off wouldn't it also be affecting the other fish as well to some degree? No I have not done any significant water changes. Just the 20 percent a week. NTC IP: Logged |

How does the poop look? if it's white ans stringy/segmented, maybe intestinal parasites? I think external stress can trigger them. good luck IP: Logged |

I wish I could say there was poop. But there isn't because the fish has not eaten in days. I feel helpless to do anything because I don't see anything externally wrong with him besides his weight loss and paleness and the lethargy. I don't know the proper way to treat him because these things can be symptoms of so much. If he had a spot or something on him at least I could identify what it is. NTC IP: Logged |

Well, my gold gourami passed away this afternoon...And I still have no idea what was wrong with him. The water was fine...But I wish I could have gotten more advice on how to help him from this list. Perhaps if someone could have shared if they had the same problem with their fish..But oh well so is life. Maybe this weekend I will get another gold one. IP: Logged |

Hi NTC, Sorry about your Gourami. I'm also sorry I couldn't help you more. Sometimes it just happens. They can have a problem internally that really doesn't show any outward physical signs other than what you mentioned. In those cases there really isn't much you can do. Again I'm sorry about your loss. IP: Logged |

Thank you for your kind words. For some people, these animals are "just fish"..but I really do my best to take care of them and I hate when something like this happens. NTC IP: Logged |
