I bought a little 10G tank almost 2 weeks ago. The guy at the pet store told me to let my tank run for 24 hours before I placed them in there. I added water conditioner to the BRAND new tank! 3 days ago my 1st P died. Today the other on died! Did I give the tank enough time to cycle? Is it cycled now? All test levels came up fine. Also my babys had developed white spots!?! HELP!!! IP: Logged |

u prob coulda let urtank cycle a little while longer. to help the cycling procees, buy a liquid called "strees zyme" it contains live bacteria that helps ur tnak to get established quicker. the white spots....describe them..did they like like grains of salt on them? also, where were these spots located? Since I had 2 RBP's in the tank for two weeks, would that be enough time for the bacteria to start growing? The spots appeared to look like white dots also acompanied with fin rott! I suspect ICK! I medicated the tank added SALT and boosted the temp up to 82 degrees. Does this mean that the tank is contaminated? What should I do? IP: Logged |

Hi PxychoLes, Two weeks is not enough time to cycle the tank. It generally takes about 6 weeks. It does sound like Ick, and the correct treatment. The tank is not contaminated. At this point I would just put in a couple of Black Mollies to cycle the tank. IP: Logged |
