i was thinking about buying a small 2 1/2 gallon tank for my fry, so that they have more room to swim around in then just the breeding net...but i have not seen a heater for tanks that size....i know that the adults can go a while without having higher temps... but what about the babies??

I was just looking at a website (since I am trying to breed guppies too!) and it said they need the heat. I was wondering, how did you tell the guppy was pregnant? And when should I put her in the breeding net (or in my case, a sepearte 1-gallon bowl placed inside the aquarium since my friend had experience with the guppies swimming out of the net!)to have her babies? Thanks so much for the help!

Well at first i wasnt sure if my guppy was pregnant, but i soon realized that when she just kept getting bigger, she was pregnant... and also you could kinda see the babies in the mommy... at least i think thats what is was..tiny little reddish dots inside her tummy...they are gone now that she had them. she was about 3 and a half week along when she had the babies, but you should put her in the breeding net 1 or 2 days before the due date...that is, if you can figure it out. i read that they are pregnant anywhere from 4 to 6 weeks...good luck with your guppies!!

hi there are breeder nets that are micro netting there is no way a fry could get out you should find one there work wonders

I actually found a little plastic one that stays on the side and has a grate on the bottom that the fry fall through until the mother is done and ready to go back into the tank, then you remove the grate and the guppies have the whole little thing to swim around in.

hey, thats the same thing that i have too. it works great, but the fry can swim back up into the top part...mine did, but the mommy didn't do anything to them good luck!!

Yeah, after this I think that I will be able to tell because I will know about how long she has been pregnant, but she came pregnat from the petstore, so I am not sure how to tell. I am pretty sure that this first batch will have to hide in the plants with the adults, but I also researched some behavior to watch for, so I will try not to let that happen!
