I have a fish that one day I just noticed that it was so big around. We thought that she might be pregnant so we put her in one of those little nets by herself but nothing has happend. It has been about a week since we noticed that it was huge. How long does it take for a fish to have babies if it is pregnant?

Hi, Mollies can give birth about every four weeks, so if she is pregers she shouldn't be long about. You should really put her in another tank on her own as being in a trap stresses mollies and its quite possible she will misscarry, either way remove her from the fry as soon as you can as she will eat them! Good luck.

Hi Joey Dirt, Cateyes1184 and terry are correct. Livebearers like Mollies, Guppies and Swordtails don't lay eggs.

I've bred guppies before and have learned that the fish will probably misscarry is you keep her seperated. Add lots of plants to the tank so the fry can hide once they're born. Then you can net them out and move them to a different tank. Also, your molly will likey give birth to quite a few fry, so dont worry if a few get eaten. Good luck!
