My fiance and I bought an albino tiger oscar a few days ago. Does anyone know anything about getting them to let you pet them or training them with food? IP: Logged |

Hi jordansaj, If you want to train them avoid live foods. You can feed them regular shrimp like you get at the grocery store of LEAN beef heart. Don't just throw it in the water. Try to get them to take it from your hand. After they have taken the food gently reach toward them and try to pet them. It won't take very long for them to get accustomed to feeding this way and accustomed to your touch. IP: Logged |

I have a Salmon colored oscar that I rescued. He had been involved in a severe tank fight. Had lost both of his fins and most of his tail. I couldn't get him to eat anything and was really feeling sad for the poor guy. Finally a friend suggested tying to hand feed him because of the way he acts when someone gets near the tank. He will follow you around the tank. He loves to be hand fed, and if you put your hand in the tank he will rub against it. I think It is pretty cool. I would definetly get your fish used to your hand. let him know it is not trying to "hunt" him by never "chasing" him aroung the tank. IP: Logged |
