I am so desparate for help. I have taken such good care of my 2 goldfish and I think i may have just really hurt one of them. I needed to clean my rocks so transferred my fish to a bowl of water. While returning one of them, he jumped out of my net and landed on the ground. i IMMEDIATELY (1-2 seconds) returned him to the tank. Ever since, he seems to have lost his equilibrium (swimming in circles, sometimes upside down). He otherwise appears fine, but he didn't eat when i put food in the tank.

I FEEL AWFUL!!! What do u think is wrong.
Please respond ASAP!

If this just happened I would relax. Your fish is probably just stressed realy bad. Try adding some stress coat to build back up any of the slime coating that might have been rubbed off the fish during the fall. That will help prevent any type of parasite or bacteria infection due to lack of protective coating (slime coat).

James (The Grateful One),
Thank you so much for replying!! I felt a little silly posting, but I never thought I would be SOO upset about a fish!

I think you were right...he seems a little funny, but he is already swimming upright again! I did add some stress coat...thanks for confirming that that was the right thing to do.
I have another question. After his fall,I put him back in the bowl he was in (used when I was cleaning his aquarium). I was too scared to stress him out again, so I left him in the bowl. It is a VERY large bowl (probably 2-3 gallons) that I filled just under 1/2 way. I was going to leave him there overnight and then maybe transfer him back with some of the bowl's water sometime tomorrow. Does that sound okay?? Thanks so much!!!

Hi steph ross, gr8fuljames is right. Very rarely will you lose one just from jumping out of the tank. I've spent 10 minutes before trying to pin down a 2 foot Arawana that jumped out of the tank. Usually as long as their skin hasn't dried out they will survive. Where you have him will be fine overnight, but do add some Stress Coat or Novaqua to the water to help rebuild the protective slime coat.

Thanks so much for your response...I feel sooo much better. I just transferred him back to his tank and he seems to be okay, except maybe just a little stressed.
