two days ago i noticed that a couple of the feeder fish had white spots so i imediately checked my oscar and sure enough he has white spots on his fins and tail!!!!!!!!! So right away I think he has ICK so I follow the 6 steps: Clean the fish's home Clean the Substrate Change 20% water Add Quick Cure (one drop per gallon and removed the carbon) Added Aquarium Salt (one Tbsp per 10 gal) Increased the Temperature 4 degrees to no more than 82 degrees. and he still has spots ive added the drops for two days now, it always cleared up by now, is this possibley not ICK and some kind of fungas? i dont want to lose my oscar! Hi pacuguy, It still sounds like Ick to me. I've never used Quick Cure so I can't tell you about it's effectiveness. I use Mardel's Maracide for Ick. One thing to check is the temperature during the day and then at night. It is as important to keep the temperature stable as it is to getting it up to 80 degrees. I don't recommend using the Mardel Copper Safe on freshwater even as much as I am a fan of the Mardel products. The reason being that copper can go into a dormant state and tests for copper will not show it to be there. Then 2 or 3 weeks later you get another outbreak of Ick and go to treat it again with the normal dosage and all of a sudden your fish are dying off not from the Ick but because the dormant copper has now become active and the copper levels are double what they should be. I only use copper in Marine tanks because it is about the only thing that will work on Oodinium, and I make sure that once the treatment is over I do several water changes to make sure the copper is out. If after the course of 5 days you still have Ick, I would recommend doing a 40%-50% water change and use Maracide for 5 days. You're doing all the right steps. IP: Logged |
