I was curious if anybody here had knowledge about Newts. I currently have two newts an Emperial Newt and a Fire Belly Newt who share an aquarium with two large snails. I found out two years ago that they should not be living together because one creates a toxicon that kill the other. But I have had them together for 10yrs now. My questions is IP: Logged |

I had a newt a few years ago. I had him for a few years, but I have no idea how old he was when I got him. IP: Logged |

so than does that mean I've done well with mine to have had them for such a long time. By the way I saw my newt on the rock sun bathing yesterday I'm glad she's back to doing her normal stuff. Now if only I could figure out why their filter stopped working. IP: Logged |

Newts are usually found in pet stores that have a lot of fish and other aquarium species. If you are interested in adopting one you should just call a store that specializes in aquarium species. Newts are fragile when they are young so get them from a good store. The most common type of pet store Newt you will find is Fire Belly Newts. They are a dark brownish colour on top and have a reddish orange pattern on their belly. You'll often see them sittting on top of each other in a big pile. I guesse its a comfort thing. IP: Logged |

newts prefer a half land half water habitat set up in a tank and also like a basking so i dont think that would work unless you put some kind of floating plants/wood at the top but that would result in you having to lower your water level. IP: Logged |

Newts will attack anything they find threatening, they have a good grip. They may also try and eat the German-Rams especially if they are fully grown adult Newts. Newts will attack anything smaller than them too (you can't have a baby newt with adults since the adult will attack the baby). They leave my giant snails alone but ate all the snail eggs. Atleast I don't have to worry about snails over running the aquarium. I'm not sure if the German-Rams would attack the newts though since I don't know too much about German-Rams IP: Logged |
