HI! I've had my goldfish since July. Originally she was in outdoor pond and then in September when it got cold we moved her into and indoor tank with 5 other fish. Once was with her originally, one is a baby from a different pond and the four others are from the store (in October). The other day she was acting kind of sluggish but after the tank was cleaned she perked up. we thought that she may be constipated but tonight she pooped a log twice here size. Also tonight I noticed that she has a bulge right behind her left side fin. All of the other fish appear to be ok, though they did not eat tonight. Any suggestions??? I love my fish and don't want to lose them!!!

SOunds tome like she may have a fatty tumor. She may also be pregnant, though I doubt that the bulge would be on her side behind her fin...

They do have vets for fish...you could try one.

BUt she may not be adjusting to the indoors as well as you thought. Most fish are pretty hardy when they live outside. Unless your outdoor pond freezes completely solid, I would recomend putting her back. You could try applying a tank heater to your pond as well, This will help a bit to regulate the temp in the cold water.

We do have some of the bigger fish outside but in Septemer Goldie just seemed to small although she has gotten bigger since she's been indoors. Our indoor tanks temp is around 70 degrees but our outdoor tank is about 30 degrees. Do you think this would be to big of a shock?

Hi yettigetti, It sounds like Goldie is blocked up (constipated). It could be from large temperature change moving from the pond to indoors or possibly from the food your feeding your other fish. Frozen brine shrimp can cause Goldfish to get blocked up. Goldie would have done very well in the outside pond even with the larger fish. When the water gets down to 45 degress they basically quit feeding. For an outside pond you should have some plants in it and discontinue feeding when the water temperature gets down to 45 degrees.

Are you sure it's 30 degrees? Unless you're adding salt water freezes at 32. (I'm assuming that you're using Farenheit.) It sounds like you've kept goldfish outside before in your area, so it should be fine. Goldfish can live with even a bit of ice on the surface (as the water below is 32 degrees) How cold does your area get?

The outdoor tank right now is in the low 30's. We live in Minnesota and the last few days have been barely above zero. We have a heater in the tank though so the water stays more or less open. And all fish have been fine so far. Does anyone know where we can buy medicated fish food. We might try feeding Goldie to see if it helps her lump. If it's some sort of infection it might help.

Sorry I forgot to include this in the last post. Try feeding your fish cooked peas for constipation. I've seen it done for gouramis and it worked like a charm.
