I have a 19 inch red tiger oscar! Iva had him for about 4 years now, He lives with a 20 inch Arowana, two red bellied Piranhas(6 inches each, one JD about 5 inches, and a huge 20 inch Pacu. They all live in a 400 gallon custom tank I had made of 4 inch acrylic. The problem I have is the **** Oscar keeps killing my red bellies i put in, there are two that he cant get ahold of since hes so slow. All the fish get along its weird, but the oscar hates the red bellies and sometimes shows agression to the big Pacu. I was wondering how much you think My oscar is worth? And what should i do to stop his 250 dollar a fish eating habits? [This message has been edited by Hooben (edited 03-14-2004).] IP: Logged |

You may have to get a seperate tank for your Oscar. Think of it this way, it won't take long at killing $250 worth of fish to pay for the tank. IP: Logged |

Hi iloveoscarfish, I could tell you but it would cost you! Honestly, I'm surprised you don't have more problems than that with that mix of fish, even in a 400 gallon tank. I would have expected the Oscars, RBP's and Pacu to beat up on the Arowana. Since everything else gets along, my best suggestion if your really want to keep Red Bellied Piranhas is to set up a separate tank for them. Also, I would suggest shopping around a little more for RBP's. $250 is just a little high for RBP's. I think River wonders sells 2" fish for $5 or $10. Millioinair huh?? married??? LOL I would suggest putting a barrier in your tank. They have the plastic (totally clear) separators for aquariums. Or you could just buy another one for him.... IP: Logged |

Hi iloveoscarfish, I decided to check www.riverwonders.com this morning and their 2" Red Belly Piranhas show to list at regular price $25. They are currently on sale for $7. The clear plastic dividers work well for small fish, but with larger fish like a Pacu they don't work at all. IP: Logged |

Your tank really is too small for those fish. Just the pacu needs at least a 500 gallon tank. Your best bet would be to buy more tanks and separate the fish or get rid of some of them. Also, can you post some pics of this tank? And especially that oscar? Is he 19" total length (including the tail) or standard length (not including tail). If that's SL, I hate to say it, but I don't believe you. If it's TL, that's more believeable, but even by oscar standards, that's HUGE. -Chelle IP: Logged |
