I have a 90 gallon tank with 13 inch pacu and i am slowly noticing his lower lip (if thats what they call em) is begining to have a sorta mushroom effect and it is kinda worrying me HELP PLEASE!!!! IP: Logged |

Hi pvtcope, I'm not sure what you mean by "mushroom effect". When the ammonia/nitrites get too high in a tank Pacus have difficulty processing the oxygen from a tank. When this happens their lower lip will protrude and start to curl downward and eventually their breathing will become labored. If this is the case I would suggest doing a slightly larger than normal water change of about 35%. In doing the water change make sure the temperature of the new water is within 2 degrees of the tank water and USE A PH BUFFER. You will be making a large change in the PH. You need to do the water change from the bottom of the tank to remove debris from the gravel. Also clean your filter media. After this you should do about a 20% water change once a week in the same manner. IP: Logged |
