i had recently purchased some slate which turned out to be limestone and that raised the hardness of the water i imediatly took it out. since the water is hard it raises my ph and i ran out of ph down. unfortiantly i will have no transportation to the nearest pet store for 4 days and because of that i cannot purchase water softener so can anyone tell me how to soften my fish tank water without using water softener IP: Logged |

You can do partial water changes over several days to reduce the water hardness. However I DON'T recommend it. Trying to reduce the water hardness quickly is far more detrimental to your fish than the hard water. If you leave them alone I think you will find that they will do OK. As for the PH increase you can add a PH buffer like Novaqua without any detrimental effects. It is much safer and better for your fish to buffer the PH rather than trying to lower it.
