There seems to be a lot of misinformation regarding Irridescent Sharks. Here is a link with factual information. http://www.fishbase.org/Summary/SpeciesSummary.cfm?ID=292&genusname=Pangasius&speciesname=pangasius IP: Logged |

With all the confusion about ID Sharks I thought this would be a good post. At the bottom of that webpage it gives links for additional info about sexing, feeding, other regions where they are found, vitrually everything you would ever want to know. If you go to the top of that webpage you can clikck on the homepage link and from there you can lookup any fish by common or scientific name. It's the most complete database I have found. Hi ghoti, I just tried the link and was able to bring it up. If you can't bring it up from the link just type http://www.fishbase.org in your address box and hit enter and it should take you to the home page. From there you can look up just about any fish you've ever heard of and get very detailed information. IP: Logged |

Hi friendly to fish, Thanks, the more I learn, the more I find there is to learn. I don't have all the answers but I try to help the best I can. You're doing great if yours are up to 12". They generally don't live much larger than 8" in captivity from all reports. The largest that I have seen were about 8 inches. Good job. IP: Logged |

Thank you for the compliment KC. I love my fish and as they get bigger so do the tank sizes my next project is building one in my garage so they can swim around in. Wife will bury me in it though I think. LOL. I think its cool you helping people out I have had to learn alot of hard and expensive lessons since I started. Keep up the good work. IP: Logged |

another quick thing in response to some of the other entrys ive read in this category.. my earth science teacher is a hobbyist and he has a 14 inch ID shark in perfect health though slightly bloated, it is in a 200 gallon aquarium and is very active.. he keeps it with a few smaller oscars parrots and cory cats. i jsut thoguht i would post this cause it is one of the biggest i have seen in captivity i havent seen larger than like 12 which is still big. I feed mine krill and algae waffers and flake food. They will pretty much eat anything that I have put in there. IP: Logged |

With my 2 ID sharks I feed african chiclid pellets. This seems to be the only type of food they will touch. I have tried algae waffers and worms and they won't touch them. It is very strange since they seem to be almost frantic when I put the pellets in, but then they leave many left over. I am not sure if they are just picky or what. They are the first ID's I have had. Any help would be great. [This message has been edited by HCL113083 (edited 01-14-2004).] IP: Logged |

Hi, With ID Sharks I have found them to go after frozen blood worms real well. Just a little tip; When feeding frozen foods I take an empty squirt bottle like what Amquel and Novaqua come in and put a little tank water in it. Then I place the frozen brine shrimp or frozen blood worms in the bottle and shake it just a little to get it to start thawing out. Then I let it sit on the counter until the frozen food has thawed and has gotten to room temperature. After that I just squirt the brine shrimp or blood worms into the tank. It makes them appear to be live and the fish love it that way. IP: Logged |
